Since 1964, Squeeg's Kustoms has been turning out award winning hot rods and
custom cars, as well as motorcycles, boats, helicopters, etc.. Squeeg's has
never resorted to production work to keep it's doors open. Only one of a kind
custom paint that sets trends and yet, remains timeless.
What is Squeeg's "given" name? Only the taxman knows for sure! To give a little
insight as to what Squeeg's Kustoms is all about, let's go back. The
late fifties, in Mansfield, Ohio, found a teenaged Squeeg Jerger starting
to toy with cars. By 1962 he had finished his first serious effort,
a beautiful, candy red, full fendered, '32 coupe called the Little
Red Wagon. Hot Rod magazine featured Jerger and his car in the May
1962 issue to hungry car fiends everywhere. That initial exposure
and his, already growing list of clients dictated that, by 1964, he
open his first shop there in Ohio. That was the beginning and he didn't
set his gun down for the next 40 years! Squeeg spent most of the sixties
painting customers cars as well as being the "hired shoe" for different
drag racing interests.
It was due to a number of winter dirt bike excursions to the Arizona
desert that, in 1974, Squeeg decided to hang a sign in Mesa where Squeeg's Kustom Paint is still thriving. 20 years after he first opened
for business, Squeeg opened The Hot Rod Connection. A full service,
turn-key hot rod fabrication shop and also a large showroom for rod
related retail parts. Many more iconic hot rods and customs were born
there but, along about 1987, Jerger decided to go back to his roots
and make his focus custom paint along with the usual turn key creations
he is known for.
Today, 41 years later, Squeeg is officially "semi-retired".
However, before hanging up his guns, Squeeg taught his eager son Doug
all the necessary skills to continue the tradtion that is known as
Squeeg's Kustom Paint. Doug has taken the ball (O.K., paint gun) and
ran with it. Rest assured "Pops" Jerger has plenty of faith in his
son's ability.
"Soul is not just a catchy word tossed around by Squeeg's Kustoms, it's a
word taken very seriously. Doug and every member of the Squeeg's crew has it.
You can see it in every vehicle that comes out of the shop. You can bet every
member of the team is a certifiable car nut that thrives on hot rod history,
tradition and most importantly, style.
The folks at Squeeg's understand the
beauty of line and the importance of balance and of course, color. You won't
find much in the way of passing fads at the shop. However, you will find Doug
and the crew using the latest, state of the art materials and equipment along
with all the old world craftsmen's tools of the trade. From concept to finished
reality, Squeeg's Kustoms has the passion to get it done.
